I got to watch both semifinals and the great final\nduring evening previews, as well as the live finale show at a viewing party at Arena+.\nThis is my, admittedly biased, experience of what happened inside the arena \u2013 but I hope it will shed some light on the events.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ENow, to be fair, I can\u0027t be sure if Israel\u0027s performance \u003Cem\u003Ewasn\u0027t\u003C\/em\u003E jaw-droppingly good \u2013 because I\u0027ve never seen it.\nThe song itself is IMO very meh \u2013 but the first time I heard it was during the evening previews,\nand I haven\u0027t seen the staging, because I joined a handful of people (sadly just a handful), who turned their backs away in protest.\nIt\u0027s telling, however, that national juries \u2013 professional musicians who sign off on their votes with their names and reputation \u2013\nhas put it the nazi entry in the bottom half of the competition.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EI also don\u0027t have any \u003Cem\u003Edirect\u003C\/em\u003E evidence of anyone tampering with the televoting, how could I?\nBut here\u0027s why I\u0027m convinced that \u003Cstrong\u003Eno, the audiences across Europe didn\u0027t actually think\nthat Israel\u0027s song deserved the first place\u003C\/strong\u003E:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAny enthusiasm for Israel in the live audience and in the Arena+ watching party felt forced and disgustingly cringe.\nEvery single other performer would get an ovation from the crowd \u2013 sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller, of course,\nbut people were \u003Cem\u003Ealways\u003C\/em\u003E happy to see the artist on stage. When Israel\u0027s name appeared on the screens, though?\nIt went silent for a few seconds, until a bunch of people started cheering as loud as they could,\nand then lots of others felt peer-pressured to join. It happened a few times \u2013 Israel coming up,\nthen dead silence, and only then some cheers.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EOther fans would cheer and wave to their idols on stage, like one does to artists,\nbut people with Israeli flags looked like they were comforting Yuval in a great hardship.\nOther people would, obviously, wave the flags of their favourite countries during their performance,\nbut generally wouldn\u0027t bother with that during all the recaps \u2013 except for Israel, whose fans never missed a chance.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen the final votes were about to be announced, when it was only between Austria and Israel,\nthe crowd of 36 thousand people at the Arena+ started shouting repeatedly \u003Cstrong\u003E\u201cAustria! Austria! Austria!\u201d\u003C\/strong\u003E.\nIt was so powerful and emotional\u2026 And then, the second Austria\u0027s victory was announced,\n\u003Cstrong\u003Ethe whole crowd erupted in the loudest and most relieved cheer I\u0027ve ever heard in my entire life\u003C\/strong\u003E.\nAt the very same second, \u003Cstrong\u003Ea whole bunch of nazi supporters immediately rage-quit the stadium\u003C\/strong\u003E.\nYou know, how every genuine eurofan does when their favourite song wins a disappointing, but still super prestigious, second place\u2026\nYou know, how no other audience had reacted ever, AFAIK.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe atmosphere on the way back from the grand final was unlike any other Eurovision-adjacent event I ever attended\n\u2013 rather than partying and singing in public transport, people seemed defeated. Relieved, but not happy.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EPeople are not happy with whatever the hell just happened.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAnd the EBU knows all of that too. They\u0027ve been in the room when all of that happened, they saw all the protests happening,\nthey\u0027ve faced harsh criticism. But perhaps most tangibly:\nthey\u0027ve changed the format of Martin \u00d6sterdahl giving his thumbs up to the validity of the results \u2013\nfrom a fucking puff piece to him personally, to just briefly showing him on the screen literally giving thumbs up\nwithout uttering a single word. After last year\u0027s boos that their fucking tech couldn\u0027t even manage to censor out,\nthey knew he wouldn\u0027t be well-received this time either, and for good reasons.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EYou know who else knows perfectly well that Europe and eurofans don\u0027t like their genocidal country?\nThe Israeli fans themselves. They looked constantly agitated, nervously looking around,\nexpecting problems every step of the way.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Ch2\u003ELegitimacy of the votes\u003C\/h2\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EI managed to vote twice last night. I even managed to vote for my own country. All I needed was a bank account in Germany,\nwhere I used to live, et voil\u00e0! With my current bank, bunq, I can open a large number of virtual credit cards\nfrom a whole bunch of European countries, with just a few clicks \u2013 and I could probably automate it via an API as well.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ESo if \u003Cem\u003EI\u003C\/em\u003E could slightly abuse the system \u2013 just to see, if it will work \u2013\ncan you image what someone with more resources and I got to watch both semifinals and the great final\nduring evening previews, as well as the live finale show at a viewing party at Arena+.\nThis is my, admittedly biased, experience of what happened inside the arena \u2013 but I hope it will shed some light on the events.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ENow, to be fair, I can\u0027t be sure if Israel\u0027s performance \u003Cem\u003Ewasn\u0027t\u003C\/em\u003E jaw-droppingly good \u2013 because I\u0027ve never seen it.\nThe song itself is IMO very meh \u2013 but the first time I heard it was during the evening previews,\nand I haven\u0027t seen the staging, because I joined a handful of people (sadly just a handful), who turned their backs away in protest.\nIt\u0027s telling, however, that national juries \u2013 professional musicians who sign off on their votes with their names and reputation \u2013\nhas put it the nazi entry in the bottom half of the competition.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EI also don\u0027t have any \u003Cem\u003Edirect\u003C\/em\u003E evidence of anyone tampering with the televoting, how could I?\nBut here\u0027s why I\u0027m convinced that \u003Cstrong\u003Eno, the audiences across Europe didn\u0027t actually think\nthat Israel\u0027s song deserved the first place\u003C\/strong\u003E:\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAny enthusiasm for Israel in the live audience and in the Arena+ watching party felt forced and disgustingly cringe.\nEvery single other performer would get an ovation from the crowd \u2013 sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller, of course,\nbut people were \u003Cem\u003Ealways\u003C\/em\u003E happy to see the artist on stage. When Israel\u0027s name appeared on the screens, though?\nIt went silent for a few seconds, until a bunch of people started cheering as loud as they could,\nand then lots of others felt peer-pressured to join. It happened a few times \u2013 Israel coming up,\nthen dead silence, and only then some cheers.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EOther fans would cheer and wave to their idols on stage, like one does to artists,\nbut people with Israeli flags looked like they were comforting Yuval in a great hardship.\nOther people would, obviously, wave the flags of their favourite countries during their performance,\nbut generally wouldn\u0027t bother with that during all the recaps \u2013 except for Israel, whose fans never missed a chance.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen the final votes were about to be announced, when it was only between Austria and Israel,\nthe crowd of 36 thousand people at the Arena+ started shouting repeatedly \u003Cstrong\u003E\u201cAustria! Austria! Austria!\u201d\u003C\/strong\u003E.\nIt was so powerful and emotional\u2026 And then, the second Austria\u0027s victory was announced,\n\u003Cstrong\u003Ethe whole crowd erupted in the loudest and most relieved cheer I\u0027ve ever heard in my entire life\u003C\/strong\u003E.\nAt the very same second, \u003Cstrong\u003Ea whole bunch of nazi supporters immediately rage-quit the stadium\u003C\/strong\u003E.\nYou know, how every genuine eurofan does when their favourite song wins a disappointing, but still super prestigious, second place\u2026\nYou know, how no other audience had reacted ever, AFAIK.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThe atmosphere on the way back from the grand final was unlike any other Eurovision-adjacent event I ever attended\n\u2013 rather than partying and singing in public transport, people seemed defeated.
