Atheism doesn\u0027t require you to have any beliefs about the origins of the universe or life\n(or specifically a belief that \u201cthey came from nothing\u201d).\nI\u0027m pretty sure that Epicurus didn\u0027t have the faintest idea about the Big Bang theory or the modern understanding abiogenesis.\nHe didn\u0027t think the universe came from nothing, he taught that it was eternal.\nIt doesn\u0027t make him a theist, does it?\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EThen, there\u0027s the fact that neither the origins of the universe, nor the origins of life\nare currently understood by science as \u201ccoming from nothing\u201d. Life came from matter (not nothing)\nthat in proper conditions and by random chance over a very long time got organised in a way\nthat let it reproduce, eventually leading to its complexity rising through natural selection.\nAnd the Big Bang means that the universe rapidly expanded from a singularity\n\u2013 we don\u0027t know exactly what the singularity was, but it doesn\u0027t necessarily mean it was \u201cnothing\u201d.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBut... let\u0027s get to the main point:\narguing that everything \u003Cem\u003Ehas to\u003C\/em\u003E have a creator kinda undermines your own conclusion\nthat there \u003Cem\u003Ehas to\u003C\/em\u003E be a god who \u003Cem\u003Edoes not\u003C\/em\u003E have a creator, doesn\u0027t it?\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EWhat purpose does your reasoning serve, other than just introducing a new step, an extra complexity?\nInventing a god to solve the problem of not knowing where did all the stuff come from\ndoesn\u0027t solve the problem, it just pushes it back a step.\nIf the complexity of the universe (allegedly) can\u0027t be explained without an even more complex being,\nthen it\u0027s gonna be even harder to explain that more complex being, won\u0027t it?\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EIf you\u0027re asked \u201chow do you explain X?\u201d\nand you reply with \u201cwell, \u003Cem\u003Eimagine\u003C\/em\u003E there is a Y that \u003Cem\u003Edoesn\u0027t need to\u003C\/em\u003E be explained\u201d,\nyou\u0027re not really helping, are you?\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EAnd \u003Cem\u003Ewhy\u003C\/em\u003E exactly doesn\u0027t god need to be explained?
